Overview:
The Advanced Diploma in Japanese Language is a lower-intermediate-level programme designed for learners who have already acquired a foundational knowledge of Japanese. It aims to further develop students' language proficiency and enable them to communicate effectively in a wider range of everyday, academic, and professional situations.
The course focuses on developing the four language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—while expanding students' knowledge of lower intermediate-level grammar, vocabulary, and Kanji. By the end of the programme, students will be able to:
- Understand the main points of news reports, short lectures, and workplace conversations.
- Read and comprehend longer texts, including narratives, editorials, and instructions containing relatively complex sentence structures.
- Write coherent paragraphs, summaries, and simple opinion-based essays.
- Express opinions on familiar topics and provide supporting reasons and explanations.
- Use a broader range of intermediate-level grammatical structures, vocabulary, and Kanji.
- Translate sentences and passages of varying complexity into and from Japanese.
The programme is designed to prepare students for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N3, an internationally recognised examination of Japanese language proficiency.
Eligibility:
- Matriculation / Secondary School Certificate (SSC).
- Diploma in Japanese Language from NUML or JLPT N4 qualification.
Admission to the programme is subject to a qualifying interview conducted as part of the admission process.
