The Department of Electrical Engineering at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) organized an insightful seminar on “CubeSat and Satellite Technology”, conducted by representatives from the Small Satellite Technology & Research Lab (SSTRL), Institute of Space Technology (IST). The seminar aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of small satellite systems, their applications, and Pakistan’s growing contributions to the field of space technology.
The speakers provided an in-depth overview of CubeSat design, development, and deployment, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of satellite projects that integrate electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering principles. They also discussed the mission lifecycle, including system design, payload selection, launch challenges, and ground station operations.
Students were particularly engaged during the discussion on career and research opportunities in satellite and space systems engineering, as well as ongoing projects at IST and SSTRL. The session concluded with a hands on workshop where students were given an introduction to STK toolkit and communication via satellite.
Overall, the seminar was highly informative and inspiring, broadening the participants’ understanding of the emerging trends in satellite technology and encouraging them to pursue innovative research in aerospace and embedded
