Department of Translation & Interpretation

BS Languages and Translation Studies

Overview

The four-year BSL&TS Degree program aims to teach students the theories and techniques of translation and interpreting and to provide them with the necessary cultural background and skills for a career in translation and interpreting. After scoring admission, students can select a language from a multitude of languages taught at NUML, to be paired with English. Final year students are required to submit a major translation project for the partial fulfillment of their degree. Career Prospects: Diplomatic & Government Services: Translators and interpreters for foreign embassies, consulates, international NGOs, and government agencies. Corporate & Business Localization: Working with multinational companies (e.g., CPEC-related roles for Chinese, or tech companies for European languages) to translate software, marketing, and corporate documents. International Organizations: Opportunities with bodies like the United Nations, Red Cross, or global sporting events (e.g., FIFA, Olympics). Media & Publishing: Subtitling, script translation, and content localization for television networks (like PTV) and publishing houses. Academia & Research: Teaching languages, conducting linguistic research, or pursuing Master's and PhD degrees to become university lecturers.
