Workshop on Quality Assurance Practices in Higher Education

 

 

 

 

The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) at the National University of Modern Languages, Islamabad organized a three-day workshop on Quality Assurance Practices in Higher Education recently. 

 

The workshop was attended by researchers, MS/M Phil/PhD supervisors and faculty members of the university.  The workshop included eight sessions focusing on fundamentals of academic quality assurance and quality assurance processes related to teaching, teacher and institution.

 

In his inaugural address, Prof. Dr. Aziz Ahmad Khan, Rector, NUML highlighted university’s efforts in promoting quality culture in teaching and research in all disciplines. There is strict adherence to the quality framework and guidelines issued by the HEC.  He said that the workshop would provide an excellent opportunity to participants for a meaningful dialogue, exchange of ideas and awareness of faculty members. He appreciated the efforts of the staff of Quality Enhancement Cell for creating awareness among researchers and faculty members on quality assurance practices.

Dr. Riaz Hassan, Dean, QEC conducted sessions on the first day of the workshop.  He discussed the concept of quality in education with reference to internationalization of higher education.  He stressed the need for faculty members and administrators to be aware of the management tools, techniques, and programs which regularly improve and ensure the quality of teaching and learning and output of their academic and non-academic departments.

 

The sessions on day 2 were conducted by Mr. Muneer Ahmad, Deputy Director, QA division of the HEC and he was assisted by Ms. Shehr Bano Zaidi, Focal Person on Anti-Plagiarism. The resource persons explained the concept and different types of plagiarism, HEC policy on anti-plagiarism and introduction to Turnitin service provided by the HEC.

 

On the final day of the workshop, Mian Khurram Shahzad Azam, Deputy Director, Quality Enhancement Cell put emphasis on training the management and faculty for an effective quality framework for institution and individual departments. He discussed HEC quality assurance processes and policies, transparency in assessment and processes, non-academic quality assurance, academic audits and institutional audits.

The participants were awarded certificates at the end of the workshop.
