Self Assessment is an evaluative exercise conducted by the institution to assess whether academic programs meet their educational objectives and outcomes. This is done to improve the quality of these programs, enhance student learning and establish acceptable norms of reliability and validity in the university’s certified output.

The QEC at NUML is committed to continuous improvement. It focuses on developing a ‘quality’ culture in higher education in the university. It aims to regularly assess and review the performance of academic programs in the university based on the national and international parameters of quality and excellence in teaching and research. The QEC would help the departments in preparing Self Assessment Reports of academic programs in accordance guidelines given by the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan.

The Quality Assurance Agency is established at the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad. It is responsible to improve and monitor the quality of higher education in Pakistan. It provides guidelines to institutions of higher education for quality enhancement through external and internal assessment reports developed at Quality Enhancement Cells located at different universities in the country.

The Quality Enhancement Cell at National University of Modern languages was established by the Quality Assurance Agency of the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan. It is monitored, regulated and guided by the Quality Assurance Agency of the HEC. The Higher Education Commission administers all assessment, documentation and quality assurance procedures in the universities through the QEC.

The Self Assessment of academic programs is conducted by Coordinators and Program Teams constituted by Dean of faculties. The Assessment Team is constituted by the Rector of NUML.

a) Deans nominate senior faculty members in departments working under them as Coordinators to supervise the effective and timely completion of Self Assessment Report and other documents within given time frame.

b) Deans nominate faculty members for the Program Team (PT). Each PT is responsible for the timely completion and submission of the Self Assessment Report and other documents of one academic program.

c) QEC arranges orientation and training sessions for the PTs for effective handling of QA procedures.

d) PTs liaise with QEC through the Coordinator of each department.

e) Soft and hard copies of Self Assessment Report and other documents of academic programs are submitted by the Coordinator to the QEC with official approval and cover letter of Dean/HOD according to the time line suggested by QEC.
