Mission Statement:

The Department of English (FC) was set up in 1974 as a teaching department of the then National Institute of Modern Languages (NIML), Islamabad. The institute was established in 1971 to cater to the needs of Ministries of Commerce, Defense and Foreign Affairs whose nominees would attend language courses before proceeding abroad on various assignments. By establishing the Department of English, NIML extended its reach to people who wished to improve their proficiency in English language.

Since the elevation of the Institute to the status of University in 2000 the department has begun to offer two undergraduate programmes BSML (Hons) and B.S (Hons) in English. Both programmes are broad based and are designed and customized according to the resources and expertise of NUML, being the only public sector University for languages in Pakistan.
